As a student, you will develop practical skills in various types of facial techniques, hair removal, makeup applications, and more through hands-on training and an instructional curriculum.

Upon successful completion of the 300 hours of hands-on training, and theoretical and clinical services, you will receive a certification of completion to be registered with the state of Florida.

The Certification does not guarantee licensure alone and you must be approved by the State under separate application requirements

how to apply

  1. Register for an in-person tour to meet the staff and current students (you must be at least 18 years of age and present a valid photo ID or driver’s license to book a tour)
  2. After the tour, the Academy will make a decision as to whether or not to invite prospective applicants to apply.
  3. If invited, you will need to submit a valid copy of your high school diploma, transcript and/or GED as well as:
    • a letter of recommendation*
    • a personal statement describing your interest in the Academy and your career goals*

The state of Florida requires 220 course hours. Jacksonville Electrology Laser & Skincare Academy’s Facial Specialist program is a total of 300 course hours. Our Facial Specialist course is a 16 week / 4 month program and will train and prepare each professional student for their new career as a successful and licensed Facial Specialist in the state of Florida.

To become a Facial Specialist or Esthetician in Florida, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • be at least 16 years old or have earned a high school diploma
  • complete 220 hours of facial specialization training
  • complete a four-hour long HIV/AIDS course approved by Florida’s Board of Cosmetology

After completion of the above, you can then apply for registration with the Department of Business & Regulation. You will need to pay a $75 fee along with your application/registration (this fee is subject to change and we recommend researching the fees on DBPR direct website).

Yes, it is a requirement in the state of Florida. Good news: at our academy, your HIV/AIDS course is included in your curriculum. You will receive your HIV/AIDS course completion certificate to submit to the Florida DBPR (Department of Business and Professional Regulation) with your registration/application packet.

There are currently no exams required for the Facial Specialist registrations required by the state of Florida. However, in order to successfully graduate from our facial specialist program you will be required to complete and pass a comprehensive final exam at our academy. We fully prepare you for the exam and you will have access to the best-in-class support systems available. At Jacksonville Electrology, Laser, and Skincare Academy we are committed to your success.

All Florida licensed or registered Facial Specialists are now required to complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education every two years before being able to renew their license. All continuing education courses must be completed from a Board of Cosmetology-approved continuing education provider.

 Currently, the renewal fee for a Facial Specialist is $45.

No, you must still directly apply with the Florida Board of Cosmetology for your Facial Specialist license. This course provides you with the opportunity to complete the required training course prior to applying for your license.
